I've been coveting a sweater pattern in the new issue of Vogue Knitting, Winter 2009/10 issue. At first I thought it was a leopard pattern, but the designer describes it a abstract flowers...whatever. Looks like leopard spots to me. Anyway, went online to price the yarn I'll need and OMG! Just for the yarn would be about $155! I really, really want to make this sweater, though. Maybe next payday I'll be able to talk DH into letting me get it. He's spending money on music stuff, so this will be payback.
I've never done anything big using the Fair Isle method, so this will be a learning experience.
My older sister had double surgery yesterday....shoulder and knee replacement. Went to see her after work and she's incredibly well. She's been up walking around some today with the physical therapists and says it's not too bad. She'll be in the hospital one or two more days, then she'll be transferred to the Rehab Center on the campus for about three weeks, so she's in for a long stay.
Work sucked, I'm tired, so that's all for today.

knittn in the south - Google Search

knittn in the south - Google Search

How's this for my first blog? I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing, but I'll jump in with both feet and see what happens.

I'm Mary and I live in the suburbs of Savannah, Georgia. I've been knitting since I was in my early 30's. The first time I actually picked up a pair of knitting needles was in the 7th grade, Mrs. Marshall's French class. We had to put on a play about the storming of the Bastille and (if I remember correctly....this was a looooonnnngggg time ago!) there was a scene where the French women knitted while the men were doing all the fighting. Anyway, Mrs. Marshall showed all of the girls in the play just the basic knit stitch. I play my part brilliantly, put down the needles for about 20 years, then picked them back up again and learned more than just the knit stitch, thanks to a wonderful next door neightbor, Sylvia.

I went to see Sylvia one day and there she was knitting away on the most beautiful sweater I'd ever seen. Suddenly, what I'd learned those oh, so many years ago, rose to the surface and I talked Sylvia into showing me how to get started again. The first things I ever really knitted was sweaters. I thought that was all knitting was used for...sweaters. I must have knit seven or eight sweaters those first few years. I've branched off quite a bit now...socks, skirts, dishcloths, scarves, felting. I've even made a cowboy hat for my husband.

This is just the start...hope to post more soon.
